About the WA DOL Knowledge Test

The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) Knowledge Test is required for new drivers applying for an instruction permit or license. Here's what to expect:

  • Passing Score: You must answer at least 32 questions correctly (80%) to pass.
  • Test Duration: Typically completed in 15–25 minutes.

  • Eligibility: Minimum age is 15½ with driver’s ed, or 18 without.
  • Retake Policy: You can retake the test after a 1-day waiting period, depending on testing location.
