About the OK DPS Knowledge Test

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires first-time drivers to pass the written knowledge test to obtain a learner’s permit. Here's what you need to know:

  • Number of Questions: 50 multiple-choice questions.
  • Passing Score: You must answer at least 40 questions correctly (80%) to pass.
  • Test Duration: No official time limit, but most applicants finish within 30–45 minutes.
  • Language Options: Available in English, Spanish, and several other languages.
  • Eligibility: Minimum age is 15½ with enrollment in Driver’s Ed; otherwise, 16 without it.
  • Retake Policy: You can retake the test after one business day if you fail.
  • Topics Covered: Traffic laws, road signs, defensive driving, and alcohol-related laws.
  • Test Locations: Administered at DPS testing centers and tag agencies.
