About the MS DPS Knowledge Test

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS) requires new drivers to pass a written knowledge test to obtain a learner's permit. Here’s what you should know:

  • Passing Score: You must correctly answer at least 24 questions (80%) to pass.
  • Test Duration: No official time limit, but typically completed in 15–20 minutes.
  • Language Options: Primarily available in English.
  • Eligibility: Minimum age is 15 years old with a Driver’s Ed course or 17 without.
  • Retake Policy: If you fail, you may retake the test after a short waiting period.
  • Topics Covered: Road signs, state traffic laws, driving safety, and signals.
