About the MD MVA Knowledge Test

The Maryland MVA Knowledge Test is a written exam that all first-time drivers must pass to obtain a learner’s permit. Here's what you need to know:

  • Number of Questions: 25 multiple-choice questions.
  • Passing Score: You must answer at least 22 questions correctly (88%) to pass.
  • Test Duration: You are given 20 minutes to complete the test.
  • Language Options: Offered in English, Spanish, and other languages.
  • Eligibility: Minimum age is 15 years and 9 months with completion of Driver’s Ed.
  • Retake Policy: If you fail, you must wait at least one business day to retest.
  • Topics Covered: Maryland traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices.
  • Test Locations: Administered at MVA branches or online through authorized platforms.
